St. Marks Fiber-Optic Retractor
The St. Mark's deep pelvic retractor is the go-to retractor for deep pelvic procedures including hand-assisted or minimally invasive procedures such as abdominal surgery and anterior resection. The hollow Doyen handle reduces weight to make the retractor light as possible. This reduces OR staff fatigue as well as reduces stress on retractor mounting systems such as The Martin's Arm Retractor System. Deep pelvic retractors like these are strong, durable and will not bend during use. They come with a lifetime manufacturer's warranty which covers any manufacturing defects. Suction can be added as well. The St. Mark's Retractor was invented by surgeons and staff at St. Mark's Hospital in London. It is the only hospital in the world that specializes in intestinal and colorectal medicine. This retractor was specifically made to perform deep pelvic and colorectal surgeries. The retractor was manufactured by Down Bros Limited in London before their building was bombed and destroyed in WWII. Original manufacturer versions of this instrument and similar instruments can be found in the Science Museum Group Collection in London, England. The instrument has remained fairly the same over the years, but with more modern manufacturing techniques, we have been able to modify this instrument's angle, add fiber-optics and smoke evacuation tubing. Hayden Medical's St. Mark's Retractor with fiber optic light is recommended to be used with Hayden Medical's light cables in 3.5mm or 5mm lengths. Please specify your light source fitting when ordering cables. The key takeaways about the St. Mark's retractor are:
- Made with high-quality fiber optics and German steel
- Durability that prevents bending or slippage during use
- Many sizes, depths and tip configurations (see below)
- Can be made with or without fiber-optic light and suction
- Compatible with self-retaining retractor like the Martin's Arm
